Noor-un-Nisa Karyn Wyse passed peacefully earlier today, Oct 30, 2007.
She was surrounded by her family. Her passage took place right after
Hazrat Inayat Khan’s Prayer for the Dead was recited.
She was a dear friend. She and I are born the same year, 1947, and we
often joked that I needed to show her respect as she was my elder.
When we were recently together and we saw the strength, courage and
joy she faced her situation with, my wife Tamam named her our ‘shero’.
She was a valued Sheikha in our community, held the activities of the
Federation close to heart and gave herself to helping its creation.
She served several terms on the Ruhaniat Board of Trustees. She was an
especially dear friend in the Sufi families in both Colorado and
Given her situation her passing is a great relief and still it is a
Our hearts celebrate her being and make prayers for all beneficence as
she continues on her journey “Toward the One”.
I invite anyone in our family to recite YA SALAAM on her behalf. At
the time and number you wish, or if you like 33x a day for the next
hilarious on travels, a faithful servant, a networker with the
Ruhaniat and Sufi Order, a devoted grandmother, and always up for
adventure. When she was diagnosed she took it all on and did
EVERYTHING, including chemo and radiation and surgery and herbs and
acupuncture. Her husband called today to tell me (joyously) of the
gift of her life and her passing and his incredible gratitude for her.
May she be blessed in all ways in this transition and may her family
(including us) be comforted. Thanks so much to Anna Less for her
treatments and to Vakil for his steadfast on-site support and to the
many doctors she worked on and with.
Not knowing, I found myself singing “Thy Light is in All Forms”
thoughout the day. That was my gift from Noor. Her husband Gary told
me today she was the Princess AND the pea from the story: so when we
get in bed and seek great comfort, that is the Princess and of course,
when we toss and turn, struggling mightily, that is the pea. All One.
Love to all, we are blessed,
