Dennis Port – Janice Wixon, 65, of Dennis Port, died suddenly in Ashland, OR on Feb. 18 while she was visiting her sister, Kathy.
Jan was born on July 29, 1950 at Cape Cod Hospital to Jean (Arnts) Wixon of Pennsylvania and Stuart Wixon of Dennisport, both of whom predeceased her. She attended Ezra H. Baker, D-Y Regional High School, and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, gaining a degree in education. She later went on to get a Master’s degree as a reading specialist. She taught in Iowa, Oregon, and was currently employed at Station Avenue Elementary School in South Yarmouth. Jan had moved back to the Cape about three years ago from Oregon to help care for her mother, Jean, who died last August.
She enjoyed the beach, traveling, and trying new things. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) which fosters the higher education of women through scholarships, grants, and loans, an organization her mother had belonged to for many years. Jan is survived by her sister Kathy (Abe Genack) of Ashland, OR and their two children, Jenna and Jake, and her brother Scott (Karen Bernard) and their three children, Alexandra, Cydney, and Nathaniel of New York.
Jan will be greatly missed by her family and friends for her gentle nature, depth of compassion and kindness.
